PORTFOLIO PREPARATION FOR COLLEGE ADMISSIONS
Portfolio preparation for college admissions is really a multi-year process that is geared toward the following:
learning and practicing your craft(s), working in different media, and trying new materials;
exploring ideas, concepts, and subject matter that interest and inspire you;
cultivating a serious commitment to your growth as a creative person,
daring to show your work to others and knowing that your art takes on a life of its own without you,
trial and error, resilience and experimentation, challenging yourself to go beyond your comfort zone,
pulling together a collection of work that represents yourself and also responds to specific prompts if necessary.
Start early, stress less.
Beginning as early as the summer after 8th grade, student artists and creators can begin planning for expanding their skills and envisioning multiple portfolio options for college admissions.
Online and in-person experiences and classes can also provide opportunities to discover new ways to learn and create with a community of other student innovators, led by professors and educators outside the high school curriculum.
Custom college searching can also reveal the best programs that bring together multiple interests and interdisciplinary study options at the university level.

“Art is choosing to do something skillfully, caring about the details, bringing all of yourself to make the finest work you can. It is beyond ego, vanity, self-glorification, and need for approval.”
