Join my on-going series of monthly workshops to help start and continue your College Application Process (CAP). If you took the Summer Jumpstart series, you are set up to continue into phases of pre-writing and drafting your essays. If you haven’t done the Jumpstart, I will get you started. Ask Alice about joining a cohort or putting together a private group with your friends or classmates.

The writing process for multiple essays and activities descriptions is stress-free the earlier we start, so let’s get going on them now!

You can open your Common App account as soon as you start high school, so go ahead and get yours set up now. You will need your Social Security number and some other information from your parents, so take a look, and then ask your parents for what you need. You cannot open accounts for UC or CSU until fall of your senior year, so don’t worry about those for now.

Keep your calendar up-to-date with every single deadline, and set reminders! There will be a lot of overlapping events, especially now that you’re back in school with homework and tests. Use your iCal or Outlook or a written agenda, whatever you will look at EVERY DAY. This is the most important time to keep track of ALL THE THINGS.

To put together you final list of colleges you want to apply to, you will research, research, research! You will use tools like the spreadsheet I will provide, and you will also ask to meet with your academic and college counselors who understand the annual trends for your school population and the colleges. If you would like Alice to assist you with your school search, you have a few options below.

Plan ahead for school tours and your last summer experience. Seek out unique, interesting, and advanced courses, internships, jobs, and camps that connect very specifically to your areas of interest and passion. You have very limited time to squeeze in those last pre-application opportunities. Ask Alice if you would like her to help with finding some!
