Dear Seniors: A Reminder About Good Sportsmanship When Good—and Bad—News Comes In

Dearest Seniors,

As you receive your last responses from colleges, I just wanted to remind you that you’ve all worked hard & deserve your acceptances!! 🥳 And so do your classmates & peers. Give each other encouragement when there are disappointments, and the only appropriate response to each other’s acceptances is “Congratulations!” This is a time for celebration & support—not questioning or analyzing why someone did or didn’t get a certain response—none of us knows more than anyone else.

I am hearing of students afraid to share their good news & their final choices for fear of judgment from others. Please be kind; everyone’s reasons are unique to their own situations. None of us are in control of what the responses were, beyond working hard through high school & on your applications. Intense experiences are an opportunity to show your character & be your best self.

Your parents & I are here to support you & any feelings you have—there are a lot of them! 😉 I am proud of you all, & I hope that you trust in your best qualities!

With lots of love,

Mrs. Shippee ❤️ 🥳
